Dear Jessica,
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. It's great to hear that others have enjoyed JCS as much as I have---and also had the impulse to meet the man who brought Jesus to the big screen in such a powerful way. I hope to meet Ted Neeley in April of next year when I go see the show. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Warmest regards,
Kimberlee
PS-I'd love to hear about your experience meeting TN sometime. His immediate, sincere connection with people sounds like a true gift.

I enjoyed your analysis of JCS. Good historical perspective and interpretation of scenes in the movie. I especially like your description of Judas as the alter ego, shadow archetype, the subconscious fear that Jesus tries to deal with. The music and lyrics introduce this conflict to the audience, but it's certainly the powerful performances by Ted and Carl that really bring it to life.

I "discovered" the movie in late Jan of 2008 and had the same eye-opening reaction that you did. Funny thing is, I enjoyed the music of the original album for many years, but never watched the movie past the first scene--couldn't see how a busload of hippies could do a good portrayal of the final days of Christ. Well I have no problem admitting I was wrong. The music had new and deeper meaning as I watched the expressions and the emotions of the actors in the film.

Although Ted Neeley was absolutely charming and his performance heart-wrenching in the movie, it's his life after the movie that I find so intriguing. To reprise this role so many times and live such an exemplary life--especially for a rocker--it's no wonder that he still has such a following. Based on what I read about him and the effect he has on the people who meet him, I had to see and meet him for myself. Went to see Ted perform on stage for the first time in April and talked to him afterwards. Glad I did.
